Stunning and Bold, Great Egret is the king of the marsh shorebirds around North Arcata Bay.
Some folks see Egrets as regal, others think they are scary, in either case, the Snowy Egret is a patient, stealthy, swift acting skilled hunter as this image demonstrates.
A green belt shielded this marshland from the roadway. Getting out and walking about forty feet into the brush revealed a number of ducks and egrets feeding in shallow ponds. This image is an artistic colored pencil rendering of a juvenile snowy egret learning to work the waters edge for food.
The golden hour of evening light provided a wonderful reflection off the water and onto the underside of the wings of this beautiful egret at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.
